The Mexico City Grand Prix might not have produced the excitement we all expected, but the post-race celebrations more than made for it. Max Verstappen’s ninth victory of the season saw him climb further up in the record books while Sergio Perez made a few of his own.

Here are all the numbers from the 2021 Mexico City GP –

GENERAL –

  • The pole-sitter hasn’t won or even stood on the podium in the last four races in Mexico.
  • The race saw the lowest number of overtakes at this venue (19) since it returned to the F1 calendar in 2015.

RED BULL –

  • Last time’s winner, Max Verstappen recorded his 19th career win, nine of which have come in the 2021 campaign alone.
  • He has won in Mexico on three occasions, making him the most successful driver in this country. His best win tally in any one country is four (Austria).
  • Each of the Dutchman’s three wins at this venue has had winning margins of over 16 seconds.
  • Verstappen has led 569 laps this year – 400 laps more than anyone else – putting him ninth in the all-time list for laps led in a single season.
  • He also surpassed Ayrton Senna for the most wins in a season with a Honda-powered car.
  • Sergio Perez took his third podium on the trot, the first time he’s ever done so in his 11-year career.
  • He also became the first Mexican to lead a lap and stand on the podium in a home Grand Prix.
  • It was the first time both Red Bull drivers stood on the rostrum in three consecutive races since Abu Dhabi-USA-Brazil 2013.

MERCEDES –

  • Lewis Hamilton stood second for the seventh time this year, the most he’s ever taken in one season.
  • Valtteri Bottas has now failed to win 13 of the 19 races he’s started from pole position.
  • Bottas eventually finished P15, his worst race finish for Mercedes. His previous low was 14th at the 2020 Turkish GP.
  • Mercedes’ lead in the constructors’ standings has been slashed heavily down to a single point now.

FERRARI –

  • Carlos Sainz finally broke his points-scoring duck in Mexico by finishing P6.
  • He has now scored in each of the last 11 races.
  • Both Ferrari drivers finished in the points, the 13th time this year out of 18 races.
The pole-sitter’s curse continues at Mexico City.

McLAREN –

  • Daniel Ricciardo now stands second (34) in the all-time list of consecutive race finishes. He’s seen the chequered flag in every race since Styria 2020 and is only behind Lewis Hamilton (48).
  • Lando Norris took the last point on offer in P10. His average race-finish position in the first half was 4.5, which has dropped to 8.2 since the Belgian GP.
  • Mexico has always been a tough outing for the Woking-based squad. They’ve collected just six points in as many races here since 2015.
  • McLaren have relinquished third place to Ferrari and have a 13.5 points deficit with four races remaining.

ALPHATAURI –

  • Pierre Gasly’s P4 was AlphaTauri’s best result in Mexico.
  • The team from Faenza have now drawn level on points with Alpine for P5.
