The season-opener in Bahrain truly was a nail-biter, but the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was an entertaining spectacle in all aspects with quite some action occurring before the race even began. Rain played the variable on a chilly Sunday evening, conditions Max Verstappen tends to excel in. He didn’t disappoint as he took a dominant win over Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris, who also put in valiant performances under tricky conditions.

Here are all the numbers from the 2021 Emilia Romagna GP

GENERAL

  • The ‘Pirelli Gran Premio del Made in Italy e dell’Emilia Romagna Grand Prix‘ might look like the longest official name for a Formula 1 race, but the first-ever championship race in 1950 had a longer one – ‘The Royal Automobile Club Grand Prix d’Europe Incorporating The British Grand Prix‘.
  • With Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris finishing second and third respectively at Imola, it’s the first time two British drivers have shared the podium since China 2012.
  • Sunday also marked the 700th podium for the United Kingdom, 167 of which belong to Hamilton.
  • Red Bull, Mercedes and McLaren last stood on the podium together in Britain 2010. Even in that race, Lewis Hamilton finished second behind a Red Bull driver.

RED BULL

  • This was the first time Max Verstappen led a lap around an Italian track. His previous best result in this country was fifth at the 2018 Italian Grand Prix.
  • Verstappen finished the Emilia Romagna GP 22 seconds ahead of Hamilton, the biggest winning margin of his career.
  • Five of Verstappen’s 11 F1 wins have come from the second row of the grid.
  • Red Bull led and won an Italian race for the first time since 2013.
  • The last time Red Bull won either of the opening two rounds of a season (2013), they went on to win both championships.

MERCEDES

  • Hamilton, the winner of last year’s Emilia Romagna GP, snatched pole position on Saturday to become the first driver to take pole on 30 different circuits.
  • The seven-time world champion now has 54 fastest laps with Mercedes engines, the most a driver has achieved with any one engine supplier.

  • Daniel Ricciardo is on a 13-race points streak and has been in the points in every race since the 2020 Belgian Grand Prix.

ASTON MARTIN –

  • Sebastian Vettel has scored just a solitary point in his last five races in Italy.

ALPINE –

  • Alpine become the 70th different constructor to take points in Formula 1.

WILLIAMS –

  • Williams suffered a double retirement at Imola spoiling their chances of scoring any points. Their last double-DNF came at the 2019 Russian GP.
